"This could be the worst disaster to ever hit the western hemisphere" were the words of a CBC reporter. As we see the devastation that has affected the entire nation of Haiti, our congregation is responding...
OBC is donating to Power to Change and Compassion Canada.
- Power to Change has an existing network of churches and volunteers on the ground right now that the responding to this crisis. They are backing up this network by sending a $1 million worth of medical supplies, foodstuffs, and other emergency items. These will arrive from Canada to be put to work through people that they know and trust. Power of Change is a division of Campus for Christ, a division of the same organization that our partner missionaries, Allan and Natalie Self, work with.
- Compassion has a history of making a difference in Haiti through their network of child sponsorship projects and working with many different local churches and aid organizations. Gifts given to Compassion will help not only infrastructure projects, but also children and families that are in need now.
Here are two direct links to the relief efforts at the organizations we are recommending for those who wish to make individual donations:

As part of our ongoing partnership with David and Nancy Harper, and their ministry within YWAM Caribbean, we have posted a link below to earthquake updates that require prayer within the disaster zone. Here is a personal challenge from Dave:
"If you're like me, you've ridden a roller coaster of emotions since hearing the news last Tuesday about the massive earthquake that rocked Haiti. In the midst of the heartbreaking stories and gut wrenching photos, it's so easy to feel powerless and to think What can I do?
The most powerful thing that I turn to at times like that is prayer. When I pray I sense fresh hope in the midst of disaster. When I pray God brings specific verses to mind that I can claim. When I pray I glimpse God's heart. When I pray I know that I'm helping to make a difference.
I encourage you to click on this link and hear first-hand stories of frontline rescue efforts by Youth with a Mission staff on the ground in Haiti. You'll be stirred to prayer as you read. And, you will know that you are making a difference right now!"
